Unfaithfulness causes many of us, immediately, to feel shock; while others experience sadness, anger, or disbelief. No one can tell you exactly how you must feel, for each person is unique. It is much better for you to experience your emotions, rather than try to hide it from your spouse. Your pain not only needs to be felt, it needs to be seen.

It is a major chore to get through this type of treason. Your partner must answer questions you feel must be asked, with total truthfulness. Your helpmate must realize that diligence is required of him, or her, because your suffering is real, and must not be swept under the rug.

In most cases, immediate change is not going to happen. Human nature really is not in the field of exonerating another human being. We do not enjoy being made a fool, and our first reaction, usually, is to retaliate. We judge, instead of trying to understand the reasons for such behavior. This does not mean we should condone infidelity, but we should try to be willing to listen.

It is not a prerequisite that you take your problems to a licensed counselor, to rescue the marriage. Many private people, rely upon close confidants, kindred, the priesthood, or the pastorate, so that they can share their obstacles. Whatever you feel will work best for you, is what you should approach.

In the end, you must correspond with your marriage partner. This is the time for you both to stay open, and honest, with each other. If separation is part of the equation, then do it quickly, so the repairing can begin. Your love will get stronger the more you share with your sweetheart.
