During this time, over 1.5 million animals, the majority of which are wildebeest, travel the treacherous journey from the Serengeti over the Mara River which is infested with crocodiles, before reaching the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. So thrilling is the migration that it’s been named the Seventh Wonder of the World. The wildebeests, many of whom are recently calved, make this treacherous journey to find greener pastures. The Great Sphinx Egypt has the Great Sphinx at Giza Plateau on the West Bank; it is a statue of a mystical creature with a lion’s body and a human head. At 73.5 metres it’s the largest monolith statue in the world and the oldest known monumental sculpture; it’s believed to have been built by the ancient Egyptians of the Old Kingdom in the reign of Pharaoh Khafra. The Sphinx has been estimated to be between about 4568 and 4542 years old.

Mt Kilimanjaro For those interested in a safari to Tanzania, consider climbing Mt Kilimanjaro. At 5893 meters, Tanzania’s Mt Kilimanjaro is Africa highest peak, and it’s also the fourth highest of the seven summits in the world, and the highest freestanding mountain in the world. Six routes up the mountain are available to keen mountaineers, the steepest and most scenic is the Machame route, which takes 6 to 7 days, while Rongai and Marangu are the easiest, and have huts on the way for weary travelers to rest in.
